Red Mountain Warthogs claims local title after defeating Phoenix RFC

On Sunday April 24 @phxrugby played @redmountainrugby to decide who will represent Arizona in the national play offs .

One player that stood out to us from the days match was @tylercocchi from Phoenix rugby club.

We caught up with the scrumhalf for a chat after the game and asked him to summarize the day for our audience

This is what Tyler @tylercocchi had to say :

Our coaches for Phoenix rugby really helped prepare us in the best way possible for a very tough well disciplined Red Mountain team. We knew that they had a size advantage were going to need a strong defensive stand. Our defensive strategy was to put as much pressure on red mountain as possible. Be there quickly and not allow their big guys to get going. We started off aggressive and it payed off. Early on we scored a try from a pick off returned about 80 meters. This game was by far one of the most physical I have ever been a part of, and that went down to the last minute of the game. Our scoring was very back-and-forth for about 65 minutes.

Red Mountain took the lead by a couple trys and then brought in a solid group of bench players which ultimately resulted in us not making the comeback. I believe both teams matched up pretty well and showed we are two of the best in Arizona. For Phoenix I believe we took a huge step as a club. We wish red Mountain the best of luck in the playoffs.
